SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

PURPOSE

To assist FACES members and their immediate family in pursuing higher education; to support leadership and career development of FACES members; and to provide FACES members and the Filipino American community the opportunity to attend the FACES Training Conference.

ELIGIBILITY

FACES Scholarship will be awarded to students related to a FACES member or any FACES members who are pursuing a college, vocational education, or continuing education who have not received a FACES scholarship in the past three (3) years.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • must show good academic achievement and good citizenship,
  • must be involved in extra curricular activities in the community,
  • must be accepted into or currently attending an accredited college or vocational institution.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

1. Carefully read the FACES Scholarship Program Eligibility Criteria below.  Determine if applicant and sponsor meet the eligibility requirements.

2. Complete the FACES Scholarship application form. (Applications must be completed in ink or typewritten.) All requested information and documentation must be provided. Incomplete applications may be rejected. Keep a copy for your records.

3. Required attachments:

Three letters of recommendation, one each from a School Teacher, School Counselor, and a Community Leader -- not a relative.

II. One page essay (typewritten, double-spaced) explaining why you wish to pursue a college or vocational education, and why you need this scholarship.

a. Copy of your school Transcript of Records
b. Proof of acceptance into, or enrollment in an accredited college or vocational institution.

4. For FACES members applying for a scholarship click here for the required application along with a proof of acceptance into, or enrollment in an accredited college or vocational institution.

6. E-mail your questions to Eloida Ambion. 

7. Your application package, consisting of the materials specified in items #2 & #3 or 4, must be sent to the following address and postmarked for the following application periods:

  • College Tuition - May 1 thru August 31, 2010
  • Leadership/Career Development - June 1 thru August 31, 2010
  • FACES Conference - August 1 thru October 15, 2010

CRITERIA

Applicants will be evaluated by the FACES Scholarship Committee based on the following criteria and maximum points.

SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE

The committee shall be comprised of at least 2 FACES past/present officers, Board Members or Department Representative.

The Chairperson shall appoint at least 3 volunteers to serve on this committee.

The committee shall be responsible for disseminating scholarship information, and preparing the award and recognition program.

AWARD AND RECOGNITION

The recipient shall be notified of the award by TBD (around September) of the current year and the recognition will be announced during the FACES Annual Conference (date TBD, but in the month of October). The amount of awards are Two (2) $500. One will be awarded to a student related to FACES members enrolled or will be enrolled in a college, vocational or continuing education. The other award will be for a FACES member who will pursue a college, vocational, or continuing education. All application responses are Confidential.
