FACES Career Coaching Program

The FACES Career Coaching Program (“Program”) is a career strategy program to support the career development, personal enhancement and upward mobility of FACES members.  The purpose of this program is to provide career guidance for members who wish to prepare themselves for workplace changes such as new technologies, departmental reorganizations, or for those who want assistance with their long-term career goals. 

The program will help to empower individuals to take personal responsibility in their own professional success by working collaboratively with their coach and together design a plan of action.  Part of the Career Coaching Program is to also develop measurements of success.

The Career Coaching Program can be in conjunction with Career Quest.

BENEFITS

You may want to enroll in the Program if any of the following situations applies to you and you are willing to invest in your future and make a commitment of time and energy.

  • You want to learn new skills to keep up with changing job requirements.
  • You are interested in connecting with someone who has more experience in your areas of professional and/or community leadership development.
  • You have encountered road blocks transitioning out of your current job category.
  • You need help in defining and clarifying long-term career progression.
  • You want access to assistance with job search, interviewing, resume writing and other career management skills, with possible referrals to limited job-bridging opportunities.
  • You are interested in deepening a specific skill(s) (professional and professional).

Your coaching program will be tailored to meet your needs. It will be up to you to decide how often you need to meet with your coach and the pace at which you wish to proceed. There is no cost associated in taking part in the Career Coaching Program.

WHAT IT TAKES TO SUCCEED

While coaches and funding may be available to you, you will gain the most from this Program if you bring initiative, energy, and persistence.  Success from this program will highly depend on the progressive effort of the participant(s).

SERVICES & RESOURCES OF THE PROGRAM

  • Career Assistance- Help in sorting out your strengths and preferences, identifying career options, setting long-range goals and developing an action plan.
    • Materials, referral services, and direct assistance provided by coaches.
  • City Job Information—Assistance with researching City-specific job information, (e.g., job duties, requirements, job availability and location.)
    • You'll identify the skills needed to qualify for other City jobs.
  • Training Links—Training in transferable skills, such as basic computer competency, interpersonal skills, leadership, communication, and career management skills.
    • Coaches will help participants determine their training needs, where to get training and what kind of support is available.
  • Scholarship Fund – t
    • To access these funds you must be a FACES member, Career Coaching participant and you must complete an Action Plan with your coach.
  • Training Services—Assistance with job search, interviewing skills and resume writing.
  • Networking – Discuss ways to connect with different groups or individuals around the City of Seattle.

WHAT FACES CAREER COACHING PROGRAM IS NOT

This program is not a job finding or placement program, is not intended for employees with performance or discipline problems or for employees who are unwilling to invest time and resources in their future.  

HOW CAREER COACHING PROGRAM WORKS

To enroll, you must be a dues paying member. 

  • You submit your application to enroll in the program. 
  • You are assigned to a coach .
  • You meet with your coach who will work with you to develop an Individual Action Plan and offer you career assistance, guidance and assistance with researching job information.
  • If training and development is part of your Action Plan, you may apply for the FACES Career Coaching scholarship fund. 
  • Your coaching program will be tailored to meet your needs.

You decide how often you need to meet with your coach and the pace at which you wish to proceed.
